God’s Word – Alive. Active. Penetrates. Judges.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Letter to the Hebrews 4:12

Have you ever heard or read a Bible passage and a word or line just seems to jump out at you or seems tailor-made for the circumstance in which you find yourself? Maybe it addresses a problem you are having, or gives you the word of encouragement you so desperately need at that moment, or challenges you to evaluate and change certain ways of thinking or behaviour. We shouldn’t be surprised by this.

This Scripture verse from the Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the Bible is not just a bunch of old written words but is the living word of God, speaking directly to us. It penetrates deeply into our being and assesses what’s there. It strips away the masks we wear or the excuses we make. It calls us to self-knowledge and challenges us to change and become like Christ.

Will you allow the word of God to challenge you and the power of God to change you?
