Conquer Your Mountains .

by Tom Caballes

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."
Romans 8:37 ESV

Life as a Christian is often compared to an arduous journey. In our travel, we carry much excess baggage that we need to unload sooner or later as they weigh us down. As we go through life, we need to conquer many mountains ahead of us. Some of us need to conquer our low self-worth or rejection. Some of us need to learn to forgive; others need to conquer our anger, lust, laziness, negativity, or other character defects. Some need to regularly forbear, be gentle and patient in their circumstances. The journey is tough, and at times, we feel like giving up. But the prize that awaits us after the journey is worth all the pains and hardships we will ever encounter. The Bible encourages us to persevere to the end. Are you ready to conquer your mountains?

So How Do You Conquer Your Own Mountains?

  1. Conquering your mountains starts by being connected to Jesus and living in the power of the Holy Spirit. God is slowly transforming you to be like Jesus – He is the source of your new life. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John15:5 ESV) Your inability to overcome will keep you humble and know that without God, you cannot prevail.
  2. You need to be connected to God’s word. You need to unlearn your selfish and worldly ways; Learn to live like Jesus by imbibing His word. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105 ESV)
  3. Be patient. Some mountains we face we will conquer easily, but many mountains will take years, even a lifetime, to overcome. Do not give up. Have a long-term plan to conquer big mountains – little by little. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:6-7 ESV)
  4. Ask help from a person whom you trust and with wisdom to help you win over some battles in life.Sometimes, we do not know how to face obstacles we failed in the past; we need a new perspective from another person to help us face our difficulties. We need to be transparent with our lives so we can win.
  5. Decide to forgive from the heart no matter what. Harbouring resentments in life keep you tied up with the past and prevents you from moving on and growing spiritually. You are the one suffering if you do not let go of anger. If it feels impossible to forgive, just remember all your sins before God and other people, and your desperate need to be forgiven. God will forgive you in as much as you will forgive others.
  6. Have an eternal view of your daily life. Some days are easy, and some are difficult. Decide to change your small habits to conform to God’s ways. Take regular breaks during your lifelong journey by having personal and family retreats as you look over your life’s horizon. Never compromise your true joy and treasure – God and His Kingdom. Long for your future home with God in heaven. And enjoy the journey with others!
Other Scripture passages:
  1. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5 ESV)
  2. Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4 ESV)
  3. But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 ESV)
  4. Other Bible verses: Romans 8:35-39; Ephesians 6:10-12; Romans 12:1-2; and 1 John 2:15-17.
