At the beginning of the book of Joshua, there is a striking verse. It says: “
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
Joshua 1:8
Do you realize what the Scripture verse here is asking for? It’s asking for a lot. But it’s also promising a lot. It says that you should always be repeating Scripture verses to yourself – it should always be on your lips and on your mind. But it also promises a lot. It says that if you keep repeating to yourself God’s Word in Scripture and obey his instructions, you’ll be successful.
How can you possibly keep God’s Word in Scripture on your mind and in your heart at all times? The answer is obvious, memorize Scripture verses and take each one to heart! Memorizing Scripture verses can be hard work, but it pays off. Start by taking time today to memorize this verse. Here it is again:
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth,
Joshua 1:8
but you shall meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do
according to all that is written in it.
For then you will make your way prosperous,
and then you will have good success.
