“I was called out of my
comfort zone and into serving on mission”
.
by Fran Dunlop
Last summer during Bible Week - a week long
retreat that took place in Belfast - I felt the
Lord calling me to do mission work with my life.
I had been doing mission work back in Glasgow
for the past few years, but I felt the call to
do mission work outside of Glasgow. This calling
quickly became close to my heart.
I know a lot of people from Glasgow who had
previously done Detroit
Summer Outreach
(DSO) and I had seen a massive change inside of
people who had done it. It seemed like
their faith had flourished and they had matured
while they were serving here in Detroit.
This was something that I wanted in my life too.
Before coming to Detroit, I found myself
becoming very nervous, and that put me off from
coming over to serve. As soon as I
arrived, the staff here and my fellow interns
were so welcoming and excited to be here to
serve, that I was calmed and knew that this was
where I was supposed to be. Now that I
have experienced the 12-step meetings in the
Soup Kitchens and have gotten to meet the youth
that I will be working with this summer, I have
seen an abundance of joy through their pain and
suffering. This has given me a much more
positive outlook on life and a want for the same
joy and love in my life.
